How to Counter Vayne?

Countering Vayne is usually a matter of picking a champion that counters her late game, or picking a counter champion that can shut her down in lane. If that doesn't work, picking a Vayne counter like a high-cc jungler can also work to shut her down and beat Vayne to a pulp.

Strengths:

• Highly mobile and invisible post-6
• Self-peel and initiation with condemn
• Dominates both squishies and tanks
• Massive lifesteal from BoTRK
• Massive chase potential

Weaknesses:

• Low early game range
• Moderate burst damage pre-Guinsoo
• Weak waveclear
• Mediocre early game

Countering Vayne and Beating Her

Based on the weaknesses and strengths list above, beating Vayne largely comprises of champions that can accomplish the following:

• Out-range her
• Slow or otherwise CC her
• Use AOE to hit her even when she's invisible

If you don't have any of these, then the following strategies work well too:

• Include her tumble when determining her effective range
• Push her to turret
• Freeze lane and wait for jungle gank

Lane Phase Vayne Counters

• Jinx - As a fellow hypercarry, Jinx is one of the few marksman that can outclass Vayne...provided she doesn't get killed by Vayne first. Her powerful snowballing abilities mean that she can out-DPS Vayne, and her longer range makes her more effective at staying alive during team fights to get her resets.

• Miss Fortune - The opposite of Jinx and Vayne, Miss Fortune is capable of abusing Vayne early game and snowballing through to mid game. While she may lose out eventually if she doesn't get a few kills in lane, once she gets enough lethality or crit she can 100 to 0 Vayne before she gets to tumble.

• Twitch - Another hypercarry, Twitch's ability to beat Vayne largely comes in his massive initial burst damage and his lack of any skillshots for Vayne to outplay. He also sports a much longer range than Vayne, which means he can generally get the first...and last hit off.

• Sona - For this bot lane champion, I think adding in a support counter is ideal. Sona's early to mid-game is incredibly good, and her Q poke can outrange Vayne easily. Once Vayne gets items, Powerchord + E can still poke Vayne down while safely avoiding counterplay as a result of the slow. Later on, Sona's ultimate gives her the ability to stun Vayne even when she's invisible with a very fast spell. This makes Vayne a sitting duck.

Team Fight Vayne Counters

• Malphite - His armor won't do much against Vayne, but with his AOE knock-up and attack speed slow, he makes an ideal counter to any marksman. Vayne is no exception.
• Vi - Vi's the perfect counter to Vayne's invisibility and self-peel. Once she locks onto a target, she's not leaving until she pummels it into the ground. If you think the enemy Vayne is good enough to dodge Malphite's ultimate consistently, let her have a taste of Vi's ultimate...or Vi AND Malphite's ultimates.
