It's been a while since our last Twisted Treeline Tier List update, but surprisingly there weren't too many changes. Although many champions moved up and down on the list, there were relatively few new additions, and most of the god tier champions still remain in the God Tier.
Again, I'm not a threes expert by any means, so this list is largely data and research-driven based on statistics, ease of play, and some general expert consensus. If you think something should be higher or lower, feel free to comment below!

Current Metagame
Right now there are THREE main methods of playing Twisted Treeline in order of popularity:
Based off of this, I'm splitting this tier list into "roles" similar to the solo queue 5s list. However, as there are only 3 positions open, I won't be including every champion into this list. If you feel that I've missed out on a strong champion, please let me know and I'll include it in the next update.
- Two solo lanes with a jungler (Generally mages go bot, but sometimes they shift depending on match-up). Sometimes you'll see a marksman like Lucian or Draven top solo.
- Duo top with a melee bruiser w/Smite + melee support w/heal + exhaust and a standard AP bot
- Utility "Jungler" like Maokai or Poppy and marksman top
- This runs differently from the jungler comp as the utility jungler ends up giving the majority of the farm to the marksman top and doing peel-duty with support items.

Everybody else. Not to say that you can't win with other champions, but for the most part the ones above will give you plenty to work with. Feel free to try out other strategies and post your experiences in the comment section below!
AD/AP Positioning
Due to the way the map is arranged, bot lane is generally considered the "safer" lane, so the solo laner almost always goes here. However, as this game mode is somewhat uncommon, you may see teams send two champions to bot lane. As a result, it's generally best to send an AP bot with long range waveclear, as these champions can deal with both 1v1 and 1v2 lanes. This means that for the most part, the AD based champion will go top. However, swapping these around isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it's a good idea to make sure that you have a mix of damage types so that the enemy team can't easily itemize against you.
When you duo in one lane with a support, top is almost always better as it's easier to invade their jungle through the top lane, and it's much easier to bully the melee laner as well since they generally lack ranged waveclear.
Champion Explanations
- Ahri [Tier 1 AP] - Ever since the buffs to Ahri directed mainly at her Summoner's Rift performance, she's been tearing it up on the Twisted Treeline. Her early game waveclear is excellent and her late game iniation is great against teams with one or more squishy targets. Of course, she's also very difficult to pin down as a result of her triple dash. The main difficulty she has is of course when the enemy team happens to be very tanky. Her burst damage is decent, but her sustain damage takes a bit of a hit.
- Akali [Tier 1 AP] - Akali in her present form definitely takes a bit of skill to play and she certainly isn't for everyone. If you master her though, her ability to tower dive enemies while shrouded is incredibly annoying.
- Amumu [Tier 1 Jungle] - One of the stronger AP champions on this map, Amumu has the sustained damage, long-range initiation, and tank killing ability that make him an excellent choice for the Twisted Treeline. If you leave up key jungle camps, his bandage also makes for a handy getaway tool.
- Brand [God Tier AP] - When it comes to early game harass, Brand is one of the best, and he can simultaneously clear waves while doing it. Meanwhile, late game the melee heavy nature of the map makes his ultimate insanely potent when it comes to wrecking enemies during team fights. While he may not be a top tier ban at higher divisions, that's only because Braum/Yasuo/Elise are so common. Meanwhile, picking him up at lower divisions is almost a free win by itself.
- Garen [God Tier Top] - Garen's damage is incredibly high for a champion that is so difficult to kill. The 3v3 nature of Twisted Treeline also naturally makes it so that the villain mechanic is in play every team fight. This allows him to dish a tremendous amount of damage while tanking turrets and the entire enemy team. His sustain also makes him nearly impossible to force out, resulting in a very powerful 1v1 laner.
- Kayn [God Tier Jungle] - Kayn's gank patterns have the largest variation potential out of any jungler on Twisted Treeline. His ability to soak damage and retreat via his ultimate or wall movement makes him almost unkillable, and his knock-ups are almost guaranteed to hit more than one target in the narrow confines of the map. If you're not playing him, banning him is highly suggested.
- Lucian [God Tier Marksman] - Lucian's always been a decent pick on the map, but as one of the stronger marksmen right now in the game, he's performing extra well on the Twisted Treeline. Some players like to duo him with a support, but Lucian can easily 1v1 most melee champions as well.
- Urgot [God Tier Top] - Similar to his status on Summoner's Rift, Urgot's ability to dominate his lane makes him very valuable on Twisted Treeline. His immense damage and simultaneous tankiness is somewhat like a ranged version of Garen with a little less sustain.
- Veigar [Tier 1 AP] - Veigar's always been incredibly annoying on the rift as a result of the massive size of his stun. This effectively zones enemies off turrets and allows his team to freely push.
- Vel'Koz [God Tier AP] - During the course of Season 8, Vel'Koz has evolved from a threat to one of the main threats. Similar to Brand, he melts tanks with ease, but has longer range and an AOE crowd-control as well.
- Zac [Tier 1 Jungle] - Zac's still incredibly annoying on this map as a result of his long range. However, his damage isn't quite as high as someone like Kayn or Rek'Sai, making him less effective in comparison. He's still viable, just not particularly overpowered.
- The purpose of this list is for discussion and to provide a starting point for champion selection.
- While I'm by no means a guru on the Twisted Treeline I do enjoy playing the game mode quite a bit and look forward to climbing the new flex ladder.
- That being said, take this tier list with a grain of salt and feel free to engage in open debate in the comment section with your own thoughts and comments. As the game mode isn't all that popular right now, hopefully this list will help spur some of you to try it out!
