Combo Review #16: Yasuo + Tristana

When you first hear of a Yasuo combo, players quickly think of common AOE knock-ups like Malphite and Wukong for maximum crowd control effects. However, this means that many people end up forgetting about smaller CCs that can combo into very powerful effects.

This combination actually focuses on the synergy between the two rather than the strength of a single combo. However, feel free to add in that Malphite top lane for the classic wombo combo.

Introduction

When you first hear of a Yasuo combo, players quickly think of common AOE knock-ups like Malphite and Wukong for maximum crowd control effects. However, this means that many people end up forgetting about smaller CCs that can combo into very powerful effects.

This combination actually focuses on the synergy between the two rather than the strength of a single combo. However, feel free to add in that Malphite top lane for the classic wombo combo.

Main Strengths

Single Target Burst Damage From Full
Tristana's level 6 burst damage is incredibly high. However, the main drawback is that against a full health target, you generally have two options:

  1. Whittle the enemy down, then finish them with Rocket Jump (W) + Buster Shot (R); or
  2. Jump behind the enemy champion and use your ultimate to knock them back into your team.
However, option one means that if you miscalculate, you can easily allow them to run away free. Meanwhile, option two removes your Rocket Jump damage unless you can get them in just the right position.

By dropping in a Yasuo, Tristana can essentially 100 to 0 an enemy champion by using Buster Shot (R) to combo into Yasuo's Last Breath (R).

Excellent Tower Pushing Ability
As attack damage and attack speed stackers, Yasuo and Tristana make for an excellent combination to push down turrets after a successful roam. Using the technique above, this combination can guarantee a kill at level 6. After this, they can quickly take down the bot lane turret for the valuable first turret bonus and shift to dragon if time permits.

Late Game Double Threat
In a lot of classic team compositions, they run with one burst damage mage mid lane and a sustained damage dealer bot. However, this combination places two sustained damage dealers in each team fight, allowing them to effectively split off targeting priority from enemy teams.

Weaknesses

  • Double AD damage - Makes for easier itemization from enemy team
  • Attack Speed Reliant AD - Allows for Frozen Heart + Randuins to be more effective
However, these are more of a Yasuo based weakness than a true weakness from the combination. In his current state in the meta, I think he is a fine choice.

Conclusions

This combination is a good twist on the early game siege composition or on a classic Yasuo comp. Naturally there are plenty of champions that combo well with Yasuo and/or Tristana, but I felt this one was particularly nice simply because of its level 6 burst potential.
