Weird Picks #54: Korean Jhin Build

The latest in Korean marksmen trends right after Black Cleaver Lucian and Duskblade Miss Fortune brings us a "new" build aimed at yet another marksman finding great success on the rift overseas. After a recent exposé by YouTuber Phylol, it's quickly gaining a following on other servers as well.

How to Play

Runes: Attack Speed Quints, Attack Damage Reds, Flat Armor Yellows, Flat Magic Resist Blues
Masteries: 18-12-0, Deathfire AD Masteries
Abilities: Q, W, Q, E then prioritize R > Q > W > E
Core Items: Youmuu's Ghostblade, Duskblade of Drakthar, Boots of Swiftness, Maw of Malmortius, Bloodthirster, Last Whisper

Why It Works

More Benefits With Youmuu's Active
Rushing Youmuu's Ghostblade gives Jhin an even bigger advantage than it gives Miss Fortune and Lucian. Although the item is already very gold efficient, when placed in Jhin's hands, he gains 10% extra bonus damage with Youmuu's active as a result of his passive ASPD to AD conversion, something other marksmen do not receive.

Excellent AD Scaling Abilities

Unlike Miss Fortune and Lucian, ALL of Jhin's abilities scale with AD, meaning that he gains more per pound compared to other marksmen. Additionally, grabbing Deathfire Touch allows him to scale even faster with AD as it also has a 60% AD ratio, and Jhin drops quite a few spells for a marksman.

Armor Penetration Stacking
Champions that rely on mostly spells to deal damage (Jhin) gain a ton from armor penetration, since their spells don't scale multiplicatively with attack speed and critical damage. Jhin's a little different since he does gain bonuses via his passive, but as a primarily spellcasting marksman, the extra armor penetration early allows him to really dominate his laning phase.

Potential Pitfalls

Weaker Kiting Abilities
This build gives Jhin more survivability than usual as a result of the Maw and Bloodthirster. However, without Rapid Firecannon he does end up a bit weaker in extended fights as a result of reduced auto range.

Lower Late Game Damage
By replacing Infinity Edge with Duskblade, Jhin trades off extended damage in return for higher mid-game single target burst damage.

Conclusions

All things considered, this build features the best in Jhin and really plays to his strengths. I personally think this build is exceedingly strong, and after play testing it a few times am impressed with the performance.
