Hey everybody, it's been quite a while since the last Twisted Treeline update back in February, mostly because the meta on the map evolves extremely slowly compared to the massively popular Summoner's Rift.
Based on the view count and comment number it also looks like this map still isn't very popular, so I'm still sticking by the ten person update request as per the hyperaggresive schedule. Let me know if this is something you really want to see more updates on by posting in the comments section!
SEASON 6 - PATCH 6.8 RANKED 3'S TIER LISTTHE TWISTED TREELINE
Introduction
Hey everybody, it's been quite a while since the last Twisted Treeline update back in February, mostly because the meta on the map evolves extremely slowly compared to the massively popular Summoner's Rift.Based on the view count and comment number it also looks like this map still isn't very popular, so I'm still sticking by the ten person update request as per the hyperaggresive schedule. Notable Changes
Graves is still insanely powerful on this map, despite a few nerfs to his tank build in Patch 6.8 via reductions in his base damage. Meanwhile, Ekko and Maokai top the list as powerful tanks, similar to Summoner's Rift.
Meanwhile, the new Taric works surprisingly well as a support on this map. With the small corridors, there's little room to run away from his Dazzle, allowing for excellent engage and disengages.
Lucian has completely replaced Kalista as the most popular marksman, and also synergizes extremely well with Braum's passive.

Current Metagame
Right now there are THREE main methods of playing Twisted Treeline:
Most strong top lane solo champions will also do well with a support with strong CC for invasion potential.
Based off of this, I'm splitting this tier list into "roles" similar to the solo queue 5s list. However, as there are only 3 positions open, I won't be including every champion into this list. If you feel that I've missed out on a strong champion, please let me know and I'll include it in the next update.
- Duo top with a support like Braum and a marksman like Lucian
- Two solo lanes with a jungler (Generally glass cannons stay bot)
- Duo top with a melee bruiser w/Smite + Braum or Maokai and a standard AP or ranged AD bot

AD/AP Positioning
Due to the way the map is arranged, bot lane is generally considered the "safer" lane, so the solo laner almost always goes here. However, as this game mode is somewhat uncommon, you may see teams send two champions to bot lane. As a result, it's generally best to send an AP bot with long range waveclear, as these champions can deal with both 1v1 and 1v2 lanes. This means that for the most part, the AD based champion will go top. However, swapping these around isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it's a good idea to make sure that you have a mix of damage types so that the enemy team can't easily itemize against you.
When you duo in one lane with a support, top is almost always better as it's easier to invade their jungle through the top lane, and it's much easier to bully the melee laner as well since they generally lack ranged waveclear.
Champion Explanations
- Amumu [Tier 1 Jungle] - Amumu's ability to bandage over walls to the jungle camps allows for excellent escape routes as long as you're aware of which jungle camps are up and which ones have probably been taken. Similarly, he also has excellent over-the-wall ganking power, and deals excellent sustained damage against tanky champions.
- Azir [Tier 1 Bot] - As a fragile caster, Azir is difficult to play on Summoner's Rift without adequate skill and practice. However, Twisted Treeline allows him a bit more room for error as the number of enemies trying to take him down is drastically reduced. Additionally, the thin lanes make it much easier for his ultimate to fully block of enemy champions and maximizes the duration of his soldier's effective auto range.
- Caitlyn [Tier 1 Marksman] - The new Caitlyn works surprisingly well on this map, especially since she can block off a large variety of entrances by herself, resulting in extremely safe sieging. She isn't a hypercarry, but rather a control marksman that slowly and steadily gives her team the lead.
- Darius [God Tier Top] - Darius always rises to the top of every Twisted Treeline tier list over time, and this time is no exception. The insanely tanky, high damage, snowball machine that he is, Darius is exceedingly powerful against other melee champions. Ideal counters include either playing Trundle, or simply relying on a support + marksman composition instead.
- Ekko [God Tier Top] - Again, similar to Summoner's Rift, Ekko is still making a splash on the Twisted Treeline as well. He's somewhat stronger in top lane than in jungle, but tends to make your team a little more magic damage heavy. As a result, you need to be sure to select an attack damage based jungler or else it becomes very easy to itemize against your team.
- Galio [Tier 1 Bot] - Galio performs surprisingly well against a large variety of teams. Since most players choose to go AP bot regardless, Galio isn't exactly game-breaking if you decide to first-pick him either. His waveclear is excellent, and his only major weakness is a lack of a good gap closer without Flash.
- Graves [God Tier Marksman/Tier 1 Bot] - Although he was nerfed, Graves is still morbidly overpowered on Twisted Treeline, especially since there are so many walls for him to instantly proc the second half of his Q off of. He's pretty much a must ban, and if he somehow goes through and your team doesn't want to pick him Top or Jungle, just take him bot lane.
- Rek'Sai [God Tier Jungle] - Rek'Sai's kit has always made her very strong on this map, since she can see through bushes for enemy champions that are hiding without reliance on her trinket. After a few nerfs to other popular junglers, Rek'Sai's back on top.
- Tahm Kench [Tier 1 Jungle] - Many people consider Tahm Kench to still be a must pick/ban type of champion. However, I think that it's only true for high tier teams that have played together very frequently. His overall win rate isn't that impressive, and although he's strong, he's not overwhelmingly so.
- The purpose of this list is for discussion and to provide a starting point for hero selection.
- While I'm by no means a guru on the Twisted Treeline I do enjoy playing the game mode quite a bit and hope that they'll introduce the solo queue 3v3 some day.
- That being said, take this tier list with a grain of salt and feel free to engage in open debate in the comment section with your own thoughts and comments. As the game mode isn't all that popular right now, hopefully this list will help spur some of you to try it out!
