How to Play
Runes: Armor Quints, Hybrid Penetration Reds, Flat Health Yellows, Flat Magic Resist Blues
Masteries: 12-0-18, Bond of Stone Masteries
Abilities: E, W, E, Q then prioritize R > E > W > Q
Core Items: Face of the Mountain, Sightstone, Boots of Swiftness, Locket of the Iron Solari, Iceborn Gauntlet, Righteous Glory/Zz'Rot Portal

Why It Works
Free 20% Armor PenetrationThe first spell that Sion maxes as a support, Roar of the Slayer (E) slows enemy champions and deals quite a large amount of damage early game. However, late game, the 20% armor reduction on hit is what really allows him to shine, and greatly boosts the overall damage of his team. Even if only the marksman on the team is AD based, it's still quite a large boost to the overall damage output.
Long Range Initiation and Follow-Up
Whether Sion ends up being the primary or secondary initiation for his team, his ability to take down unsuspecting foes from outside ward range allows him to catch out almost any champion that's alone mid-lane. Additionally, his personal knockups and slows can easily keep enemy champions still until his team comes to clean up.
Tilt-Worthy Roam Power
Similar to Pantheon, hitting level 6 and immediately entering into the fog of war should put the enemy team on edge. However, if they disrespect the Sion gank potential, he can quickly snowball into any lane he chooses and heavily impact from outside of standard ward range. Mid lane is a crowd favorite.
Excellent Early Game Trades
Early game, Sion's passive damage is extremely strong. Against most lanes with only one or two CCs, Sion can quickly turn fights around and pick up at least a one for one trade. Just try not to trade with Jinx, as she can easily reset off the first kill for free.

Potential Pitfalls
Damage Is Mostly Item Scaling
Although Sion's early game damage is quite good, his late game scales much better than the base stats increase by. As a result, he does need good amounts of health and/or AD in order to continuously dish damage and perform as more than a CC bot.
Ineffective Against Mobile Champions
Against mobile champions, Sion may find himself with difficulty landing his CCs to any effect. As a result, many of the FOTM picks like Ezreal, Lucian, and Vayne cause problems for him. However, other champions like Kog'Maw and possibly Jhin could easily fall prey to Sion if they're not wary.

Conclusions
Sion support isn't in the meta right now as a result of the high mobility that many champions have. However, against relatively low mobility champions he could still be quite good in lane. Meanwhile, if you happen to blind pick into highly mobile champions, just survive until level six and roam like crazy.
Suggested Rating: Low Tier 2
