Hi everyone and welcome back to episode of Weird Pick Wednesday! This week we're looking at a surprisingly effective, super trollish support, Rengar! With his tendency to steal kills and generally be a "death is the hardest CC" type champion, he's definitely an unorthodox pick that needs to roam to be effective.

How effective is he? Check out the details below and decide for yourself!

How to Play
Runes: Attack Damage Quints, Attack Damage Reds, Armor Yellows, Magic Resist Blues
Masteries: 21-9-0, standard AD Rengar masteries
Abilities: Q, E, W, Q then prioritize R > Q > E > W
Core items: Youmuu's Ghostblade, Hydra, Last Whisper, Black Cleaver

Why It Works
Strong Bush ControlBot lane is very bush control heavy, especially so at high Elo. The enemy laner's desperation to maintain control of the bush allows Rengar to heavy abuse his passive and quickly burst down champions starting from level 1.
Great Roaming Power
With his empowered bola, Rengar can easily force a flash or snag kills when he roams. As a support, he can also take some time to charge his stacks on scuttle crab as he's moving in towards mid. Many people underestimate the strength of a support Rengar, and generally don't flash bola in time, creating great early game gank opportunities.
Strong Early Game Base Damage
As a champion with excellent early to mid game damage, Rengar can easily snowball without the use of many items. Additionally, he's an extremely powerful tower pusher, something that most supports are lacking in. This allows him to quickly snowball teams to victory, providing the enemy team doesn't realize his potential strength early on and simply camp his aggressive playstyle.

Potential Pitfalls
Roaming with Rengar is crucial unless your enemy laner happens to be someone like Sona trying to trade at level one. This means that your AD carry will likely be alone a great majority of the time. In solo queue, this may or may not work out to your advantage.
Rengar's ganking power is also very dependent on his skillshot. Although it's extremely powerful, it can be difficult to land if he approaches from a poor angle.
As a more traditional support, he's definitely a bit lacking. He can provide sustain via relic shield and CC via his bola, but if that's what you're aiming for, there are far better picks.

Conclusions
Support Rengar has the ability to completely take over a game by himself. However, his comeback potential is very low as he relies on continuous all-in skirmishes to establish a lead. As a champion who does poorly against poke/kite type team compositions, support Rengar absolutely needs to make sure he gets ahead and stays ahead.
He's definitely extremely fun if you get someone who doesn't realize how strong his bush chasing power is though.

Suggested Rating: Low Tier 3

Support teemo for weird pick wednesday
ReplyDeleteI played Cho'gath support with decent success.
ReplyDeleteFull AP support Zac. His level 2+ is absolutely brutal, his support roaming is top tier, and one kill in lane with a good clean up ADC (Tristana may be my favorite here) means all you have to do is hit E and its a 2 v 1 (Or 2 v 0 if you can knock up both) sounds trolly but the burst and roam potential makes it OP.
ReplyDeletesupport Vladimir or Riven?
ReplyDeleteWhy would he do that? He made an entire post about what he hates to see in ranked and teemo was in it twice!
ReplyDeletead Vladimir
ReplyDeletestacking bloodthirster.
wait
Niger, is this you who sponsored this topic? DansGame
ReplyDeleteRengar is no support. He is ADC with Thresh or Blitzcrank support :D
ReplyDeleteI suggest you to make an Irelia mid post on your next FOTM Report ;)
ReplyDeleteVs Janna Tank no life......
ReplyDeleteAlso donger+blitz=most trollest of bot lanes
ReplyDeleteI've done kha and rengar bot... It was insane...
ReplyDeleteblitz and AP Shaco. Put 5 boxes in a bush and wait for first blood lelelel
ReplyDeleteAP Irelia Mid is literally what got me back into playing Irelia, I took it ranked all the time and was always accused of hacking xD
ReplyDeleteActually, Irelia mid is mostly built AD, and played a lot on Korean server and championships, and recently on LCS too. Irelia AP Mid, would be a good weird pick tho ;)
ReplyDeleteAP Irelia is something everybody has to try at least once. Lich Bane, Hextech Gunblade, Ionian Boots of Lucidity, Zhonyas Hourglass and Rylais Crystal Scepter are all pretty core for APrelia. 1v1 is great because your opponent can't run away from your Q, your E, Hextech Gunblade active, and Rylais Crystal Scepter passive ;3
ReplyDeleteIt's really fun to play even if just derping in normals, go try it
Check out Jungle Karma!!
ReplyDeleteYou should check out ADC Rengar and Support Kha'Zix. It's such a weird bot lane, but their damage, pushing, roaming, and crowd control makes it work surprisingly well. If both know how to synergize with each other and know their champion well, you WILL shut down the enemy bot lane. The enemy ADC will be so far behind that they can't do anything. This combo can also do well when ganked as they are great at escaping and bursting, so they can burst the adc if they get ganked and run. It leaves your team weaker in teamfights late game as you don't have a true adc, but with this mix chances are you'll end the game before they even get to late.
ReplyDeleteSimply hating something doesn't mean not knowing how to do it; also I would like to see how other people do it. It's a troll pick but it's effective when done properly.
