Weird Picks #9: Jungle Twitch

Hi everyone, this week's Weird Pick Wednesday focuses specifically on Twitch jungle, a champion that's extremely gimmicky, but somehow still manages to squeeze. Using early cheese ganks, Twitch is extremely potent at a variety of divisions, especially against players who've never seen jungle Twitch in action.

Introduction

Hi everyone, this week's Weird Pick Wednesday focuses specifically on Twitch jungle, a champion that's extremely gimmicky, but somehow still manages to squeeze. Using early cheese ganks, Twitch is extremely potent at a variety of divisions, especially against players who've never seen jungle Twitch in action.

Playing Jungle Twitch

Starting Items: Machete + Pots - You used to be able to start Doran's Blade, but machete is just too good right now.

Runes: Standard full AD masteries work, but some guides pick up attack speed and maybe one movement speed quint to help with his ganks.

Masteries: Standard 21-9-0 masteries with the defensive points in the jungle minion damage reduction.

Skills: Q, E,W, max E, then Q, get R when possible.

Strategy

Jungle Twitch is essentially a 100% gank based jungler. While he can farm the jungle with some difficulty, he banks almost entirely on picking up red at level 2 and then immediately heading into a lane for a lvl 2 gank vs a level 1 champion.

If this fails (or succeeds), Twitch generally chooses to continue ganking early, or simply go attempt to ambush the enemy jungler.

Again, if necessary he can also clear jungle camps, but does have some difficulty and tends to be vulnerable to counterjunglers.

When to Play

Ideally, you'll want a strong front line already on your team along with good kill potential early on ensure maximum potential during your level 2 gank.

If this isn't available, then he's somewhat less viable unless you can get at least 2 kills early on while you still have red buff.

Thoughts on Jungle Twitch

In solo queue, level 2 ganks are absolutely devastating, especially since nobody wards early or really expects a 1v2 or 2v3 that early in the game. The level advantage and CC from red is also extremely potent, even if the enemy champion flashes.

If you see jungle Twitch in a game, invading him at red will likely put him far behind, but he still has the potential to gank well without it.

Late game he's insanely strong if he's managed to snowball and stay alive, but without a front line he suffers from the same weaknesses as Twitch in lane.

Since he's going to be a gank-based jungler, should you go for Skirmisher-Warrior?

You could also opt for stalkers if you feel like the enemies are going to be able to often escape your ganks (natural gapclosers) or even rangers just to survive the early game. I think I'd rush blade of the ruined king after my smite enchant, but if you want a big early game damage boost warrior is good too.

If you know how to do the red buff with a ranged champ (you can see in youtube) correctly you will have a nice start.

  4. Wasn't this pretty popular when feral flare was still in the game?

  5. Jungle Twitch is basically a bad Shaco but with a lower skill-cap

He was pretty viable with the first Devourer (or Feral Flare times). Currently Devourer isn't a great item, in fact I think that Vayne as jungler is better. As someone said below: Just a bad Shaco.
