A fun twist to the AOE comp, this team composition revolves around two main characters, Shaco and Orianna. While their popularity has waned in and out in the past few months, I think that they're both able to hold their own in the current meta, and together create one of the most terrifying team compositions and graphically satisfying to execute. Let's check it out!
SUGGESTED LINEUP Top: Jarvan IV Mid: Orianna Jungle: Shaco AD Carry: Sivir Support: Lulu | ADVANTAGES:
- Extremely strong CC
- Excellent AOE - Multiple engagement methods - High team synergy with Sivir - Very high utility | DISADVANTAGES: - No true "tank" - AD heavy - Weak poking action |
Overall Strength: Very strong
Difficulty to Counter: Hard
Difficulty to Execute: Medium
Fear Potential: Very Scary
STRATEGY:
Orianna's ball is invisible when attached to an invisible Shaco, which means that when he jumps in you can position an Orianna ult to bind the enemy team on top of each other from the backline. Combined with a well timed Lulu ultimate, the enemy team will be tossed around like ragdolls while Jarvan and Sivir drop in to clean up.
The reason we place Jarvan at top lane is because once the enemy team starts picking up pink wards and spamming them like crazy to prevent getting Shaco + Ori combo'ed again, Jarvan can replace Shaco, being naturally more tanky and having a higher reach. In this scenario, you'll want Shaco on peel duty against any would be assassins through his jack in the boxes.
The most difficult parts of executing this strategy is that it centers around Shaco doing well early to mid-game so he's a threat, and also relies on the support providing good map control. However, the satisfaction of a well placed team combo is EXTREMELY gratifying.
Also be sure Shaco doesn't walk outside Ori's ult range during the engage, or someone's going to look real dumb...

COUNTER-STRATEGY
In order to easily beat this team, I suggest having a strong poke team. At first glance it seems like having lots of beefy tanky champions would do well since they have no true tank, but as those tend to be more melee based, a team composition like that would do extremely poorly against this AOE CC comp.
Here's a sample team that would do well:
Top: Tryndamere - This might be disputable, but against a strong AOE comp I like to have at least one champion split pushing to avoid going 5v5 in an unfavorable location. On the other hand, Tryndamere can get snowballed very hard on by Jarvan, so he'll need strong jungle support early.
Mid: Ziggs - Strong poke, good waveclear, and can disengage enemy team with his satchel charge.
Jungle: Lee Sin - One of the few junglers that can keep up against a counterjungle Shaco, he can potentially stop the combo by kicking Shaco as soon as he appears, wrecking the ult positioning.
AD Carry: Ezreal - Against a team like this, you'll want to have the fastest, longest, escape possible to avoid getting instantly gimped.
Support: Janna - With a team lacking CC like this one, Janna provides a strong backbone, and also gives the team excellent disengaging potential.
Naturally, a mid-game oracle and a few sets of pink wards are a must, and rushing bulwark on Lee is a great idea as well.

I would switch out shaco for maybe a rengar, rengar can become a lot tankier and still dish out damage and his stealth is a lot longer and can be set up from a distance.
ReplyDeleteThat's a perfectly reasonable swap out! Rengar can definitely be very strong, especially if you need someone tankier. I would recommend Shaco against a team with assassins though, as they tend to be weak early (when Shaco is strongest) and are also easily protected against with jack in the boxes.
ReplyDeleteWhen I commented about this comp (I think that's where Suntastic got it from), I said shaco because of the team we ~accidentally~ created. Anyways, I still prefer Shaco jungle because of the plays he can make with his ult, even late game. And his invis works like a gap closer too, which is the point of combo'ing with Orianna. I know rengar does too, but he won't be invisible during his pounce, and that, sometimes, could be decisive. Anyways, I guess Rengar could be a very interesting option.
ReplyDeleteI know someone mentioned it to me on Twitter, and I've played against/with it a couple times myself. Another thing worth mentioning is that the cooldown on Shaco's invisibility is much lower than Rengar's ultimate.
ReplyDeleteI do appreciate any comments sent my way on team comps though, I feel like I'm getting writer's block ._.
I meant no harm, when I said that. That was just the center ideia.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I appreciate your work, I come daily to see what's new. Keep up the good work!
how about shen in top lane? Rengar + Shen combo is always nice :3 , maybe twitch as adc
ReplyDeleteTwitch and shen would definitely fit the theme very well!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I've got some extra time lately so I'll be pushing through more content. Any feedback is appreciated :)
ReplyDeleteSeason 4, only 1 pink for team. They won't be able to spam pinks anymore! Perfect for stealth champs
ReplyDeleteGood point! Time to switch back to maining shaco :)
ReplyDeleteI think it would be really funny. Something like: Look at that Orianna all alone ~lots o' pings~. SURPRISE BUTT SEX
ReplyDeleteIt's actually not my point, proffesional players were saying this already about s4 and how evelyn has become so annoying (pbe) :)
ReplyDelete1 more thing, will you give an opinion about the major gold rework that supports will get? there are champions that with the increasing income will be viable like lissandra or even op like annie
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely possible, and even awkward supports like Nidalee might be much stronger than before.
ReplyDeleteTwisted Fate too, since he can just teleport in, and once they see it, you can scare them into scattering by using his ult, and take advantage of the fear potential!
ReplyDeleteAlso consider Thresh and HIS Lantern! (Flash in, box em, lantern in somebody and boom!)
well we tried your tactics out aaaand it kinda worked out awesome!
ReplyDeleteMaybe Jarvan Jungle and Malphite top?
