Riot has just announced their plans for an upcoming dragon-themed champion, Ao Shin! Check out the details below! He's NOT the next champion, but will be relea
As the League of Legends community expands and grows around the world, so too do our influences and inspirations for the game. We thought it would be fun to give you guys a very early peek at one of the champions we're working on while he's still in the early stages. Meet Ao Shin, a powerful storm dragon and guardian of the natural world. Legend holds that when Ionia faces its greatest crisis, Ao Shin will descend from the sky.
Let's start with the inspiration for his name: Ao is the family name of the mythological dragon kings, who rule water and weather. This tells us right away that this is a powerful, elegant being, above the concerns and rules of men. Shincan mean many things, one of which is prosperity. It also means a rising storm. Ao Shin embodies this elemental duality, capable of raining good fortune on his allies and, in the very next breath, bringing stormy, thunderous ruin upon his foes.
The community's been asking for a dragon champion for some time, but we knew we couldn't just do any dragon. With each new champ, we try and push the limits of what's technically and creatively possible. Ao Shin is no different. One of the challenges we're looking forward to tackling is how to capture his unique anatomy and movement in a way that brings a new dimension to the champion pool. It's too early to go into much detail, but we're really excited about the ways this champion will move across the battlefield.
Ao Shin isn't the next champion scheduled to come out, so he's still a ways off and many things are still subject to change. But we wanted to share our inspiration with you and give you a look at the early thought processes that go into champ design. Hopefully you're as excited about his potential as we are to keep working on him!

This is great. :3 Btw, have you been playing a lot of ranked lately? I'm wondering on Draven's new spot on the tier list.
ReplyDeleteDraven's still pretty strong, but I'd say he's still closer to the bottom of the Tier 1 AD carries. I do need to update the tier list again though =x
ReplyDeleteSo the Passive buff isn't giving him a better advantage? Is he at least better than Ezreal now?
ReplyDeleteYou don't have as strong an early game, but playing more passively (depending on your laning opponent) can get you extremely strong mid game especially if you can ideally pick up some kills during the laning phase.
ReplyDeleteAo Kuang- Smite ...
ReplyDeleteap or ad?
ReplyDeletecopying smite?
ReplyDeleteSmite LOL
ReplyDeleteI have to admit I'm very impressed by the idea. Shyvana I thought was somewhat disappointing, but I think perhaps it isn't the champion that was wrong but rather the dragon aesthetic. The sense of mystical power that the Eastern Dragon embodies is rather more exciting than the Western greedy barbarian raider Dragon. However, like to some extent Xerath and Syndra, they will have to once again grapple with making something which should feel ultimate and awesome into something balanced. I'm not too fussed to be honest with such a style, I'm more interested in jumping on people and punching/spearing/cleavering/dunking their lights, but the continual search of my friend Magnus for something that suits his evil genius ultra-mage demeanour (currently he seems satisfied with Syndra) has made me think a lot about this question. My suggestion would be simply to make such champions scale massively, from very difficult starts to bursts of high damage around 20 minutes to utterly ridiculous by 30, rather than the Xerath compromise of snaring himself, the Syndra compromise of incredible difficulty or the Veigar one of being awful without a full combo (then giving him mad cooldowns, thus ensuring awful :P )
ReplyDeleteso, still no ao shin :(. So top champ? jungle? mid?
