It won't be a permanent penalty, but it provides a huge disincentive to dodge:
If you queue dodge during a Division or Promotion Series then the series will immediately be canceled and you'll have to re-qualify for the series by winning another game. It might sound harsh, but queue dodge rates in ranked are honestly too high right now, and we're not interested in having some players carefully micromanaging their series matchups at the expense of everyone else's queue times and failed lobbies. SourceOn the other hand, this change also makes it easier to stay within a division for people who enjoy "smurfing". Whether this is a good thing or a bad thing is something we'll have to wait and see.
To advance, you must not flinch.
I think the % of people that actually play on their main or on a smurf and intentionally try to maintain a low elo is very marginal. Yes I know they are out there (hell I used to play with Reep like a year back and that's all he does now), but I feel like the number of them is so few you would very rarely encounter them. My guess would be that statistically speaking this will do pretty well overall as a means to discourage ranked queue dodging.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good point Hyfe, the benefits of this decision definitely out-weigh the costs!
ReplyDeleteI think it will be easier for trolls (not to include Trundle;) ) to actually troll picking for example katrina into jungle. Then normal players must pay for them in that case :/
ReplyDeleteThat's a good point snufek, there are definitely some games that need to be dodged...
