Ranked ELO Gains/Losses in Season Two

Season 2 Summary:

Good Evening summoners, I'm sure all you level 30s are grinding furiously trying to climb the ELO ladder. But sometimes you're getting +45, sometimes +22, and sometimes even +12, why is that?

If you have no idea, you've come to the right place since I'm about to tell you. If you noticed at the beginning of Season Two, you kept your wins and losses from Season One; this meant that you didn't have any "placement matches" (explained below) and earned whatever amount of normal ELO you'd gain, which would be around +/- 12 if you had sufficient matches.

Placement Match: The first approximately 10 games of your ranked career will give you somewhere between 45~55 elo per win, then start dropping to 25, 22, 16, 14,12, as approximate, but not precise numbers.

This means that if you played over 10 ranked games before Riot reset the Season One matches in Season Two, you missed your opportunity for placement matches and therefore will probably only be gaining 22~25 ELO per win/loss. Sorry!


Also, if you played any games played before the reset Riot will not be adjusting your ELO for post win/loss reset ELO gains, and thus if you gained 12 in the first week of Season 2, you will not be receiving an extra 35, and vice versa for losses.

Duo Quing: Sometimes you also get some ridiculously low amount of ELO for your match. Why is this? Generally it's because someone with a very high ELO duo-qued with someone with a much lower ELO and therefore Riot believes that your team was destined to win that match-up and rewards the entire team a low amount of ELO as compensation.

However, if the two people duo'ing are around the same ELO (aka within about 30 of each other) then Riot will still award the normal amount of ELO to each player on both teams depending on the number of games each individual has played.

Current Season 2 Standings:

Currently, the highest ELO hovers a little above 1700, which means there are a disproportionate amount of players in the silver and bronze bracket. In fact, many of the former 1520+ gold level players are now appearing in the 1350 bracket, which means bronze level games will be much more competitive than in Season One (for now.)

The average RANKED elo (people over around 1230) is currently 1284 based on the number of total pages on the ranked Solo Que list.

Keep in mind that half the people are UNDER 1200 and unranked, since that ELO that you've all been gaining had to come from somewhere. Therefore we can conclude that if you're at 1284 and above, you're at the top 50% of RANKED players and in the top 25% of RANKED PLAYING players. Good work!
