SEASON 4 - PATCH 4.18 RANKED THREES TIER LIST
Season 4 UPDATE
Season 4 UPDATE
Introduction
While I'm by no means a guru on the Twisted Treeline I do enjoy playing the game mode quite a bit and hope that they'll move the solo queue 3v3 over from the PBE servers to the live servers some day.
That being said, take this tier list with a grain of salt and feel free to engage in open debate in the comment section with your own thoughts and comments. As the game mode isn't all that popular right now, hopefully this list will help spur some of you to try it out!
Current List Updates
As Season 4 winds down into its close, I had a chance to jump into the fray with a few diamond and master tier 3s players, who kindly offered their insight to how the metagame has progressed so far, which seems...not that much from the beginning of the Season as far as NA is concerned.
Current Metagame
Right now there are two main methods of playing Twisted Treeline:
- Duo top with a support like Leona or Annie
- Two solo lanes with a jungler
Based off of this, I'm splitting this tier list into "roles" similar to the solo queue 5s list. However, as there are only 3 positions open, I won't be including every champion into this list. If you feel that I've missed out on a strong champion, please let me know and I'll include it in the next update.

Due to the way the map is arranged, bot lane is generally considered the "safer" lane, so the solo laner almost always goes here. However, as this game mode is somewhat uncommon, you may see teams send two champions to bot lane. As a result, it's generally best to send an AP bot with long range waveclear, as these champions can deal with both 1v1 and 1v2 lanes.
This means that for the most part, the AD based champion will go top. However, swapping these around isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it's a good idea to make sure that you have a mix of damage types so that the enemy team can't easily itemize against you.
Champion Explanations
- Gnar [Tier 1 Top] - Despite being a relatively new champion, Gnar's definitely made his impact felt as his ranged kiting abilities are extremely potent against the majority of AD melees as long as they don't get bush control, and his mega Gnar form provides an amazing source of CC during teamfights.
- Karma [God Tier Bot] - Karma's utility and damage are absolutely through the roof, and can kite/chase down pretty much any set of champions in the game.
- Maokai [Top Solo God] - This should come as no surprise based on his solo queue reworks that have been dominating summoner's rift, but Maokai's ability to gank and sustain on the Twisted Treeline is insanely high right now.
- Pantheon [Top Solo God] - Even without the super high utility of his ultimate on a small map, Pantheon's in-lane harass is absolutely brutal, and against the majority of auto-attack heavy champions he comes out on top due to his passive.
- Trundle [Tier 1 Top] - Although difficult to execute properly against a high mobility kiting composition, aligned with some strong CC, Trundle's late game is absolutely god-like, and his pillars are extremely effective when it comes to the narrow corridors of the Twisted Treeline.
- Vel'koz [AP Bot God] - With his strong waveclear, short cooldowns, and insane range/base damage/scaling on his spells, Vel'koz is an absolute terror right now and one of the strongest newcomers to the Twisted Treeline.
- Wukong [Tier 1 Top] - Although Wukong can jungle as well, his early game trading power combined with his absolutely devastating ultimate synergizes extremely well in a 3v3 setting.
- Yasuo [Tier 1 AD] - Despite having mixed feelings about Yasuo in summoner's rift, even after his nerfs Yasuo is extremely powerful in Twisted Treeline simply because of the narrow corridors and the strong utility that he can provide via his ultimate combined with his teammates.
- Yorick [Tier 1 Jungle] - Yorick's jungle works fairly well in Twisted Treeline, as he depends on relatively little gold to provide the CC and ultimate necessary for his top laner to snowball and carry the game.
- The purpose of this list is for discussion and to provide a starting point for hero selection.

Finally got an update, thanks! I'll read through in the morning.
ReplyDeleteYES!
ReplyDeleteFINALLY!
WOOHOOOOOO!
And per the usual, I'm judging almost immediately.
ReplyDeleteYou are no 3S guru, that is true, but the AD Ranged plays a bigger role than you think. If I had to say, there are a few gods in AD ranged, specifically Lucian and Corki, 2 hard carries that alter the balance of TT itself. They provide massive damage and great burst to a teamfight, with the latter being a personal favorite. The AD meta doesn't really bend towards either NA or EU, and is more like something you see once every 4 games.
Move those 2 ADCs up to god, SWITCH Darius and Riven (really, Riven is an excellent person at 2v2 and providing utility, as well as a great initiator), put Olaf ahead Wukong or as a God (don't underestimate his damage./tankiness), put Ahri as a god (EXTREMELY self-explanatory), and this tier list is golden. I have no problems with either Tier 1 or Tier 2 except for those mentioned. I have personal bias about Vel'Koz, but that probably be ignored.
And "viktor" don't forget narrow areas make viktor a lot stronger + his update.
ReplyDeleteAs accurate as that sounds, Viktor is right where he belongs in Tier 2. The meta for mids is burst, relatively low skill requirements, and easy snowballing.
ReplyDeleteViktor must wait for the former, which is a problem due to no late game, has a skill cap (no surprise with the update), and lacks the final.
Comp Wise: what I have found to consistently work for me is Morgana, Master yi, and Kayle: Heavy push, Heavy picks, and Heavy scaling damage. The other composition I like to run with friends is Singed, Rammus, and Gnar. Feel free to try them out, I just play 3's for fun.
ReplyDeleteLOL, How about make a ARAM Tier list?! Would be very fun! :)
ReplyDeleteI think Xerath is at least high Tier 1
ReplyDeleteWhat I run with a jungler is J4 top, Vi jungle and Syndra/ahri/xerath bot, with supp we swap vi for leona
ReplyDeletePretty curious to think what shadow sect's opinion is.
ReplyDeleteI only have 2 other friends I can regularly play League with, so naturally we've tried 3v3. But each of us only has one win on it (poor guy's teammates were two bot feeders). We regularly get matched up against guys with over a hundred wins though. They're usually way below us in Rift ranked but for some reason they whomp us on Treeline. There's not a lot of guides out there that really help out either so I'm not sure how we can get better. We can pick champions off your list, we can farm better than them, but then it gets to teamfighting and they just cream us somehow.
ReplyDeleteDiana was previously in god tier, but now she's a tier 2 champion. What was the reasoning behind this?I've had a lot of success with Diana in ranked 3's and I'm confused about the sudden change in her viability.
ReplyDeleteShe's still really strong, Tier 2 is viable on this list. It's mostly because of the way people are changing their strategies to have more of a protect the bot lane glass cannon AP rather than having 3 tankier champions.
ReplyDeleteSona is left off on the list

It's totally safe and approved from Riot
a good team comp would be amumu, ori and yasuo. ori should place her ball on amumu, and engage in a grouped 3v3, such as fighting for the altar. amumu's ult makes everyone stay still for 2 seconds, which will give time fir ori to 3-man ult the enemy team and yasuo can ult as well to finish them off.
ReplyDeleteThis list isn't viable! It's got a few missing champs, like where's Vlad, Kat, Azir, Sona, and whoever I missed?
ReplyDeleteEver looked at Tier 3?
ReplyDelete"Everybody else. Not to say that you can't win with other champions, but for the most part the ones above will give you plenty to work with."
I do agree though. Vladimir and Katarina are probably both Tier 2, as well as Azir.
ReplyDeleteSona, however, is not viable in TT whatsoever.
Sona is not viable in TT.
ReplyDeleteNever.
To be serious, Diana is more of a Tier 1 pick. I myself have a lot of success as her as a solo mid.
ReplyDeleteHey can you do descriptions of champs strengths/weakness for all champs rather than just the ones you have in bold??
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't mind helping if you are too busy for all that; I can type some stuff up for you and see what you think -- your call
ReplyDeleteSolo mid in Twisted Treeline? Wouldn't that be jungle?
ReplyDeleteTT terminology. It's another word for AP Bot.
ReplyDeleteAnd no, the roles are:
Top Solo or AD Ranged
Support Top or Jungler
AP Bot
Honestly from what I've seen, I'd say Sivir offers a lot for this map for mobility and lane pushing post 6 with a simple pick axe can clear a minons wave with Q+W combo. and her Ult makes catching and start team fights very easy. Also the movement speed to go lane to lane I feel makes her tier 1 AD ranged if not at least tier 2 viable.
ReplyDeleteU forgot ziggs.

ReplyDeleteThere are two Karma supports :o
ReplyDeleteZyra sup ?
ReplyDeleteNO
ReplyDeleteNO GOD NO
NO
Sivir is TERRIBLE in TT. Never ever.
He's in Tier 2 AP bot, which is fine placement.
ReplyDeleteZyra support is unheard of in TT simply because she doesn't fit the role in the duo lane. Tier 3 would be where that role belongs.
ReplyDeleteAs for Zyra mid, it's a Tier 2 AP borderline Tier 1. Remember that the meta of TT is a tanky support with a strong damage/sort of tanky AD top, and a VERY bursty AP in bot.
Vladimir provides 12% Damage to the whole team, which is HUGE
ReplyDeleteRanduin's Omen is a thing you know.
ReplyDeleteZyra is just simply not a "viable" tier 2 AP bot, she is an extremely strong tier 1 AP bot, verging on godlike - but not quite there. She can dish out huge amounts of damage with her full kit, push lanes, farm/waveclear easily, ward crucial bushes with her seeds (something that makes her almost godlike on TT and is often understated,) offers CC and an ultimate that can make an entire teamfight, not to mention maintains a lot of synergy with certain gimmicks/team comps (Zyra + Yasuo + Wukong anyone?) Her passive can also help finish a teamfight in your favor but it requires skill.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I can attest from personal experience that Zyra is quite a bit better than Lissandra on TT. I used to main Lissandra until I tried Zyra down there, and I will always choose Zyra over the frost queen unless she is needed as a counter pick. They are both amazing, but Lissandra's incredible mobility and ultimate do not outshine the full breadth of what Zyra brings to a team.
This is a great list though. I feel like most players would agree with the majority of it. I just had to give my two cents about Zyra's placement, as I honestly feel that she has been scored too low here and Lissandra too high. They are both very strong Tier 1 AP bots in my humble opinion.
Why isn't nidalee in higher tier? I think that the scouting she provides a lot of scouting with her traps and spears, her passive is great for escaping/chasing and her cougar form is extremely mobile.
ReplyDeleteShe's definitely one of my preferred picks in TT, AP as well as AD.
What are your opinion? =)

I somehow managed to post as Guest too.. I apologize ^^'
ReplyDeleteyer a fookin wannabee wif yer "TT terminology"
ReplyDeletederpface
I have a very good win/loss record with Sivir in this mode, and she does deserve a mention.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't say terrible i can see where she isn't a bruiser which mainly dominates TT. But her Q %AD is high and her minon wave clear is amazing. And with the fact of her ult for chasing down that last person, that could other wise defend the base turrets or inhib, for the ace allowing good time to push. Of course with this setup you either have to be very good at solo laning with her or have a support as a must have.
ReplyDeleteSame here what made me start going her on TT and testing it out 3v3 was the hexakill mode. afterwards and a couple nice wins with her with a jungler and with a support that is what sealed the deal. Granted there are other picks but banning wise she never gets banned which is a win for me.
ReplyDeleteis there no solo top lower than god tier?
ReplyDeleteSSJ, may you please do a 3v3 tier list for 4.20 ???
ReplyDeleteUpgrade this plz D:
ReplyDeleteI think that swain is very strong IF he gets to lvl 6. He does optimal healing and damaging against 3 people. Just go into a fight, get low, zhonyas, then keep fighting.
ReplyDeleteI've been playing a swain wukong fizz combo. I've won a fair number of games with that.
ReplyDeleteI am amazed veigar isn't mentioned here at all. His aoe stun locks up opponents for your carry to rape them, and with blackfire torch i have yet to see an enemy ap champ (and ad champs if i'm decntly fed) to survive his burst. Put him in a duo lane and once you e your partner is basically free to wail on them along with your w and q chunking them.I have around an 80% win rate with him, but you guys can decide whether or not to believe me on that. but seriously, he is amazingly good here.
ReplyDeleteidk why hes even listed as ad melee.
ReplyDeletethats what i said, i just specified it more XD
ReplyDeleteAP Nidalee and Nautilus duo lane with Darius solo lane has had a really great success rate. Basically anytime an enemy tries to gank the other lane we collapse on them. (which is what you should try to do regardless of your team comp.
ReplyDeleteThis list need Rek'Sai
ReplyDeleteThis list REALLY need update now... Has been 3 months ...
ReplyDeleteDarius is definitly the best solo laner in 3v3 right now, followed by Wukong and Riven. I had great success with a Wukong(top)/Xin(jungle)/Morgana.
ReplyDeleteupdate
ReplyDeleteUpdate pls
ReplyDeleteLove you <3
ReplyDeletePLZ SSJ ! WE WANT IT :D
ReplyDeleteWHY ARE YOU EVEN SLEEPING ?
Soon...12 days later... :D
ReplyDeleteWas not expecting them to remove backfire torch. Will be a little while as threes meta evolves slow.
ReplyDeleteDue to The Ahri buffs and removal of black-fire torch, it seems that Ahri who was not able to get into god tier because of her low damage, and reliance on black-fire torch to fight/deal acceptable damage on the more bruiser/tankier champions who are usually present and are able to take her damage upfront. Since TT tends to lean towards the early game, champions that are naturally tanky are able to rush damage early while many champions that are not tanky are able to rush tankier items early because of very high base damage. On that last nate, their are also those champions that either have a very high combinations of Range/ CC/ and mobility. Where Ahris mobility is at its highest at lvl 6. Thanks to the recent changes, Her Q makes it possible to outrun/position from the movement speed boosts and her damage buffs allow her to rush better items on her instead of the preferred usual torch. What do you think?
ReplyDeleteI would say the most godlike combo is yasuo, kalista and lee sin, My friends and I did ranked 3's with this and the ultimates when up will destroy most comps. Also pre 6 puting kalista toplane and then yasuo bot with lee sin going jungle or bot too works very well, since kalista can kite alot of champions without problems. When lee sin ward jump kicks the priority target into kalista and yasuo, kalista ults and since well most teams will try help the champion that got kicked by lee they will be grouping together, perfect for kalista to ult yasuo (yes at the start bind yasuo) and after kalista ult yasuo needs to quickly press ult (which is activated by kalista knockup and pritty much the enemy team dies instantly.
ReplyDeleteCould you give us some advice about ward jumps? I can execute them at the Rift but I'm having some trouble getting wards at TT
ReplyDeleteI think Viktor should be placed higher, I've have tons of success with him in 3v3. His W provides an insane CC if your teammates can work with you and his other spells to so much damage.
ReplyDelete
